TOTEM PLUGIN FOR TEXT/HTML NEEDED TO READ WAV FILE .

Asked by John H. Duhart III

I have received emails with attached .WAV files and when I try to read them I get a message that states ,
"TOTEM PLUGIN FOR TEXT/HTML IS NEEDED " .
I've tried to install via sudo apt-get ---- etc and I get a very disturbing message that tells me packages are missing that are needed to install the VLC plugin . As far as I can tell my 14.04 HARE is kaput when it comes to VLC .
Would the easiest thing to do be a reinstall of UBUNTU 14.04 ?

ALSO , what has happened to the OLD DASH . I used to be able to see VLC as one of my installable options there .

When I try to read a .wav file I get the following message :
__________________________________________________________________________
Required plugin could not be found

totem-plugin-viewer requires to install plugins to play media files of the
following type: text/html decoder
__________________________________________________________________________

Could you tell me what sudo get-apt install command I should execute on
the terminal to install the needed plugin ? I'll get back to you if it
installs or with the error message if it does not .
I'm running 14.04 .

Thanks

Please open a terminal window and execute the following diagnostic commands

dpkg -l | grep restricted-extras
dpkg -l | grep totem-plugins

then copy/paste all output into this question document
