No printer driver for Ricoh Aficio SP 300DN and MP 2001L

Asked by M.C.Santhosh

Government offices in Kerala have been using ubuntu OS. But most of the printers are not working properly in this OS. Almost all the manufactures are providing only printer drivers for Microsoft OS. Recently we purchased 12 number of Ricoh Aficio SP 300DN printer (being the lowest quoted) and MP 2001L, but not working properly due to non-availability of correct driver. We are using other suitable drivers of other models. Please provide the correct driver for these models.

It seems that Ricoh does not provide a driver package for Linux (you should have taken that into account before purchase).

Someone wrote on the web that he had success with extracting the "RICOH Aficio SP 300DN.ppd" file from the MAC OSX driver package.

Printer and scanner drivers for MP 2001L for Ubuntu are here:

http://support.ricoh.com/bb/html/dr_ut_e/nrg/model/mp200L/mp200Len.htm#Ubuntu%2011.10

And try extracting the "RICOH Aficio SP 300DN.ppd" printer driver from the MAC OS X driver package.

See post #3.

Go to http://support.ricoh.com/bb/html/dr_ut_e/re/model/sp30/sp30en.htm

Extract the RICOH Aficio SP 300DN.ppd file from the Mac OS X driver package, as there is no separate Ubuntu driver package.

I clearly explained this in post #3....

You might try the following:

On a computer with Microsoft Windows OS install the program 7zip from http://www.7-zip.org/ (version 9.20 should be fine).

Download the PPD installer for Mac OS X 10.10 from http://support.ricoh.com/bb/html/dr_ut_e/re/model/sp30/sp30en.htm to that Windows computer

Open the downloaded file z57870Lf.dmg with 7zip

Inside that archive navigate to \z57870Lf.dmg\2.hfs\PPD Installer\RICOH Aficio SP 300DN.pkg\Contents\Archive.pax.gz\Archive.pax\.\

Extract the file RICOH Aficio SP 300DN.ppd

Copy it into an suitable subdirectory of /usr/share/ppd/ of your Ubuntu system and try configuring cups that your printer is using it

To print in Ricoh Aficio SP 300DN (Network, Duplex Printer) in Ubuntu 14.04 (14.04.1)

Select Dash > Priners > Add > Network Printer > Ricoh > Aficio MP 2000

(Ricoh Aficio SP 300DN will not be available in the list)

Download and extraction worked as Manfred Hampl described it. But I get an error message from the printer (two red lights).

But I found that the SP 9100DN driver works fine, including duplex printing.
