wirless

Asked by ericd

I am using Gutsy and a WUSB54G (Linksys wirless usb network adapter)
I have installed ndis-wrapper and the driver without incident.
I have tried all ( no really changing of passwords auto passphrase no WEP etc) the combinations of password encryption between the router and my adapter.
I can login to the netgear router CG814W.
the adapter is sending but not recieving (0%).
I can use the adapter from another XP machine.

in short everything seems to have gone off without a hitch but I am not able get to the router.

my adapter is not a WUSB54GC
my adapter came with 4 drivers versions 1-4
I installed V4 to match the adapter
can this script resonably be expected to work on this older adapter.
thanks for your help Zombie

I thought it was working but when I moved the computer it did not.
I moved the computer back and the adapter still does not work.
I went to look in the installed drivers "screen" and found the driver that I
installed 'rt2500USB' noting that "hardware is present.YES"
I also saw the rt73 driver "hardware is present.NO"
perhaps this driver that I installed does not work with ndis-wrapper and the
rt73 driver does not recognize the WUSB54G v4
Thanxs sorry I did not make this clear

Steven Mitnick is having a problem that looks similar.#26685
Since no one has responded to either of us yet, I was hopeing I could find
out more about his set up but I cant figure out how.
When I try to make a request for more info I get "there is (1)ERROR"
I would like to know what driver he is using
router
ndis
wep ?
wpa
no pass
Thanxs for you advice it did seem to move me in the right direction but I am
still unable to get through to the internet or the router.
to clarify I do have acces to the router from another machine for
maintinance and internet traffic

my goodness I had no idea someone might get back to me.
I am filled with good feelings.
Yet I must confess that my mood has been less than positive these past few
months.
I was unable to use the adapter in Ubuntu so I installed XP for my dad on
the computer in question.
I will not be altering his computer again.
I recently built a new computer for my self and have had trouble with
installing the 64 bit ...I have tried the debian release with the same
issue.
I have written about it in Launchpad but the advice I received appeared to
me to be cursory at best.
Perhaps I have not given enough information.
I also installed the 32 bit hardy but there were problems related to the
video card there as well; though I was able to use the OS.
I was completly unable to do anything with the 64 bit.
I am now using XP 64 bit though there is no driver for the card there either
...standerd VGA adapter is running the card.
I must complete my architecture project now so I do not have time to work on
the 64 bit driver issue though I did get the recent running Linux book
(O'Rielly)
and it seemed to indicate on a quick pass through that the Interrupts or
device information set out in the Bios my be incompatible.
As soon as I am done with what I must do I will try again to use Linux as I
am still committed to the open source Ideal.
When I do I hope that your organization will be open to further
communication.
Thanks for all your obvious hard work.
I hope that future success will enable all of us to support each other and
inform those who might otherwise not be able to get this kind of information
on there own.
