What is the output of the terminal command

dpkg -l | grep ' linux-'

That command should not solve your problem, but provides information that is needed for identifying the details of the solution.

Issue the terminal command

sudo dpkg --purge \
linux-image-3.13.0-24-generic \
linux-image-3.13.0-39-generic \
linux-image-3.16.0-24-generic \
linux-image-3.16.0-25-generic \
linux-image-extra-3.13.0-39-generic \
linux-image-extra-3.16.0-24-generic \
linux-image-extra-3.16.0-25-generic \
linux-headers-3.16.0-24 \
linux-headers-3.16.0-24-generic \
linux-headers-3.16.0-25 \
linux-headers-3.16.0-25-generic

(copy/paste the whole block at once)

When that command has completed, issue the commands

df -h
df -i
sudo dpkg --configure -a

and copy/paste the output of the commands into this question document.

That looks good.

For testing whether your package management system is in a consistent state again, please issue the following commands:

LANG=C sudo dpkg --audit
LANG=C sudo apt-get update
LANG=C sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

and copy/paste all output into this question document.

Ok. There is still a problem "gzip: stdout: No space left on device", although the free space on /boot was already up to 50%

Please provide the output of the commands

df -h
df -i
grep miro-releases /etc/apt/sources.list /etc/apt/sources.list.d/*.list
dpkg -l | grep ' linux-'

Ok, try again with

LANG=C sudo dpkg --purge \
linux-headers-3.16.0-28 \
linux-headers-3.16.0-28-generic \
linux-image-3.16.0-24-generic \
linux-image-3.16.0-25-generic \
linux-image-3.16.0-28-generic \
linux-image-extra-3.13.0-24-generic \
linux-image-extra-3.13.0-39-generic \
linux-image-extra-3.16.0-24-generic \
linux-image-extra-3.16.0-25-generic \
linux-image-extra-3.16.0-28-generic

(copy/paste the whole block at once)

When that command has completed, issue the commands

df -h
df -i
LANG=C sudo dpkg --configure -a
LANG=C sudo dpkg --audit
sudo rm /etc/apt/sources.list.d/pcf-ubuntu-miro-releases-utopic.list:deb
LANG=C sudo apt-get update
LANG=C sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

and copy/paste the output of the commands into this question document.

Just a small problem with a PPA left (is not yet solved because of an error in my previous commands)

Execute the commands

sudo rm /etc/apt/sources.list.d/pcf-ubuntu-miro-releases-utopic.list
LANG=C sudo apt-get update
LANG=C sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
dpkg -l | grep ' linux-'
dpkg -l | grep desktop

and copy/paste all output as you have done before.

Many thanks for all the assistance especially Manfred Hampl's. Much appreciated.
The problem is resolved.
Best.

Just two last comments:

You have some packages installed that are related to Ubuntu-desktop. Due top the fact that you are using kubuntu (kubuntu-desktop), these packages are not needed.
You can remove them with the command
sudo apt-get autoremove --purge

You have only limited space on the /boot partition. Periodically new versions of the kernel package are provided. These use the space on the /boot partition, and when you have too many kernel versions installed you will again run out of space. So you should make sure to limit the number of installed kernel versions (to maximum three of four).
The command
sudo apt-get autoremove --purge
will remove outdated kernel packages. So you should execute this command periodically (e.g. once a month, or whenever the update manager has installed a new version of the kernel).
