Asked by Inderjit Singh

I am running Ubuntu 13.04, recently aftre changing the update settings for notification for any new version, I got the upgrade option in the 'Software Updater'. I started upgrade which failed /stopped two three time due to internet problem. I got sone 1400 packages out of 1800 ( Approx) packages of the new version. Subsequently, during my next attempts for upgrade , I am not getting the upgrade option and receiving the mesage the software is upto date.What went wrong I do not know,please guide me.

You cannoty upgrade directly from 13.04 to 14.10, you need to upgrade to 13.10, then from 13.10 to 14.04, then from 14.04 to 14.10

This takes a LOTof time and a lot of data. Due to the number of upgrades Iwould guess at the OS being a real mess.

Isuggest you wipe Ubuntu (In whatever state it is in) from your system and do a clean install of 14.04. 14.04 (codenamed Precise)is LTS and supported til April 2019.

14.10 (codenamed Utopic)is not LTSand is only supported til July 2015. After which you will be in the EXACT same situation you are in now.

You can restore your user data from your backups

Ok, run:

sudo gedit /etc/update-manager/release-upgrades

Change:
Prompt=lts

To:
Prompt=normal

Then run:
sudo do-release-upgrade

And you will upgrade to 14.10
