Can't boot in Windows 8.1

Asked by Roger

Good Day All,
I am not finding the specific cure, so I posting the question. I have windows 8.1 on HP2000, and I have updloaded Ubuntu. The problem is I can not boot into UEFI, windows 8.1. Symptoms are: 1) Ubuntu boots with either [Ubuntu with Lenux 3.13.0-32 or 39] - windows 8 missing, 2) BIOS has EFI, but will not boot in windows, 3) Ubuntu repair software will not add windows Option.

I am able to get into BIOS that has F11 repair boot, but the repair does not seem to work.

Are there any options to open windows 8.1 again?

Are you sure when you installed you used the option "Install alongside Windows 8?"

Sounds like you may have installed on the whole drive. If this is the case, unfortunately windows would need to be reinstalled. Assuming you have a recovery partition (still) or a disk, you may need to start over.

I am currently dual booting Ubuntu on my Hp laptop. Before I installed, in Windows 8.1 I went to disk management and shrunk the drive to create a new partition. I did not format it, I left it as unallocated.

Then I started install process and once I got to partition section, I selected alongside 8 and Ubuntu installed into the partition I had setup for it.

I do however hope you did not in fact inadvertently erase your Windows.

Thank you Geoffrey for responding,

I did install a partition in Windows 8.1, and installed unbuntu in the unused partition.

1. Is there a way I can check to see if windows is still loaded, while looking in ubuntu? I installed gparted, and thought it was still there.

2. Could there also be a booting error.

I've looked at Youtube, Ubuntu help, and other documents for a couple days, and I not completely convinced I erased the disc.

Again, thanks for taking the time.
