Crash with latest update to 14.04

Asked by wordsmyth2

Just downloaded and installed latest base update & etc - computer promptly crashed and would not re-boot. Managed to get into the BIOS and, using 14.04 on a USB, I made this the boot drive and managed to access my files on my hard disk and transferred these to my external drive. Persisted with trying to re-boot the computer and eventually succeeded - but now SUSPEND does not work: the screen blanks and then re-opens. Conclusion: is there a bug in the current update?

Does the system have a make and model?

Hello again, Parsnip. I've used Ubuntu for the past seven years but I'm
not all that tech savvy. What 'system' 'make and model do you need
information on?//I'm running the most recent Ubuntu 14.04 and the base
security update was received a few hours ago ...and you have the result
of installing THAT. I'm running 14.04 on an Acer Aspire E1-531 with 6GB
of RAM. Anything else I need to supply?

Best,

wordsmyth

If you use the command:

sudo pm-suspend

Is it ok?

Screen goes dark for a few seconds and then comes back on - same as
when I click on 'suspend' in the drop-down menu ... :-(

Think I've discovered what's happening: suspend works fine IF I
immediately tale my hand off my mouse. If I keep my hand resting in
the mouse, the screen does not reappear - but if I remove it, the
screen comes back on. This hasn't happened previously.... :-\

Will do. Many thanks. Now, if I just keep my hands off the mouse and my desk ....

Can you help with this problem?
