Installed the addon, no difference. Had to install Language Tool to check text and this DOES work. Such unnecessary fiddling - with 12.04 LibreOffice spellceck was up and running when the app was installed, with no need for this adding-on and etc. Poor show.

I suggest you report a bug. Not something I use but I have seen 2 users ask this today and used the same link to answer it.

You can start the process by running:

ubuntu-bug libreoffice

Please mark as solved if it is so.

Tried running your suggestion, got the following message:

     "The problem cannot be reported:

This is not an official Ubuntu package. Please remove any third party package and try again."

    What now?

Which version of libreoffice do you have installed?

What is the output of the terminal commands

uname -a
lsb_release -a

You haven't provided the output of

apt-cache policy libreoffice-core libreoffice-common

It seems you are using the LibreOffice PPA?

Yes, Manfred: Installed the PPA as alternative, hoping to solve the problem - no luck.

If you have similar problems with spell checking for both the official libreoffice version and for the PPA version, the root cause might be hidden somewhere else. If you open system settings - language support, is there everything clean, or do you see a warning 'language setup incomplete'?

I installed Lanuage Tool from Libreoffice and THIS works fine - but I have ubuntu 12.04 on dual boot and LibreOffice 3 spellcheck works okay, as did Open Office on previous versions from 7.10 onwards. Following your advice, I checked System Settings for Language Support (my repositories show all required packages ticked as installed) and received the following:

"Could not install the full language support

Transaction failed: Package dependencies cannot be resolved
The following packages have unmet dependencies:

thunderbird-locale-en: Depends: thunderbird (>= 1:31.1.1+build1-0ubuntu0.14.04.1) but 1:31.1.2+build1-0ubuntu0.14.04.1 is to be installed "

What's the connection with Thunderbird? Spellcheck is working fine in Thunderbird.........

There might be a dependency problem that the spell checker packages for libreoffice cannot be installed as long as there is a problem with spelling packages for another program (e.g. thunderbird).

Please provide the output of the following terminal commands:

dpkg --audit
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install -f

Thanks for the help, Manfred - but I solved the problem by re-installing Ubuntu 14.04 - always the last resort, right? And LibreOffice spell check up and running without any more ado! Drastic solution, but had to be tried and it did the trick. Corrupt install, maybe?
Anyway, thanks again.

Cheers!
