Touchpad on hp 255 G1 laptop no longer works after updating to ubuntu 14.04.

Asked by Virginia Vargo

After the update I found that the touchpad doesn't work anymore. I have plugged in a usb mouse which works fine. I have run a terminal command to see if the touchpad can be detected - it is not being detected, but I can't seem to find any information about how to make it find the touchpad. Is there something I can do to make the computer recognise its own touchpad? Thanks for helping me!

Try loading the psmouse module with various options like:

proto=imps
Or
proto=bare

Also try the boot option:

i8024.reset
Or
i8024.nomux=1

May help

Hi actionparsnip,
Thanks for sending me these suggestions, I couldn't get any joy out of them though.

When I tried proto=imps this is what came back:

HP-255-G1-Notebook-PC:~$ sudo apt-proto=imps
usage: sudo -h | -K | -k | -V
usage: sudo -v [-AknS] [-g group] [-h host] [-p prompt] [-u user]
usage: sudo -l [-AknS] [-g group] [-h host] [-p prompt] [-U user] [-u user]
            [command]
usage: sudo [-AbEHknPS] [-r role] [-t type] [-C num] [-g group] [-h host] [-p
            prompt] [-u user] [VAR=value] [-i|-s] [<command>]
usage: sudo -e [-AknS] [-r role] [-t type] [-C num] [-g group] [-h host] [-p
            prompt] [-u user] file ...

proto=bare:

HP-255-G1-Notebook-PC:~$ sudo apt-proto=bare
usage: sudo -h | -K | -k | -V
usage: sudo -v [-AknS] [-g group] [-h host] [-p prompt] [-u user]
usage: sudo -l [-AknS] [-g group] [-h host] [-p prompt] [-U user] [-u user]
            [command]
usage: sudo [-AbEHknPS] [-r role] [-t type] [-C num] [-g group] [-h host] [-p
            prompt] [-u user] [VAR=value] [-i|-s] [<command>]
usage: sudo -e [-AknS] [-r role] [-t type] [-C num] [-g group] [-h host] [-p
            prompt] [-u user] file ...

i8024.reset:

HP-255-G1-Notebook-PC:~$ sudo apt-i8024.reset
[sudo] password for virginia:
sudo: apt-i8024.reset: command not found
virginia@virginia-HP-255-G1-Notebook-PC:~$

and i8024.nomux=1:

HP-255-G1-Notebook-PC:~$ sudo apt-i8024.nomux=1
usage: sudo -h | -K | -k | -V
usage: sudo -v [-AknS] [-g group] [-h host] [-p prompt] [-u user]
usage: sudo -l [-AknS] [-g group] [-h host] [-p prompt] [-U user] [-u user]
            [command]
usage: sudo [-AbEHknPS] [-r role] [-t type] [-C num] [-g group] [-h host] [-p
            prompt] [-u user] [VAR=value] [-i|-s] [<command>]
usage: sudo -e [-AknS] [-r role] [-t type] [-C num] [-g group] [-h host] [-p
            prompt] [-u user] file ...

I don't know if that will help you diagnose whats the matter with it... I'm a noob with no idea what any of it means really, so would really welcome any suggestions!

Thanks again for helping me

I have just had the same problem and I sm fairly sure it is because when I upgraded to 14.04 I inadvery discarded the specific driver needed for the HP 255 G1 keyboard and touchpad. One reason for thnking that is that a few of thr keys miss map: @ displays as " and vice-versa. I have not fixed the problem yet. Have you?

Can you help with this problem?
