new acer/zorin system software center app quits responding

I just recieved my ACER ASPIRE ONE refurbished computer and when i click on the software center it displays the software center display and accesses the disk for about i second then the circle stops turning and it doesn't respond to the keyboard. when i
wait for 1 second to 1 hour and click the X in the top corner it says not responding force quit? any hints?

Folks, I an 71 years old and quite ill. I decided to wienny out and go to the latest ubuntu i know it and like the features.
