Having trouble with Ubuntu 14.04 LTS

Asked by Margaret Mackintosh

Was going to make a bug report but that takes specifics which I cannot remember. What is happening is some web sites won't come up. Been receiving 'Sorry, Ubuntu is having internal problems'.. Not sure how it is exactly worded. I have been trying to upload some pictures and now I cannot. Also cannot get on some web sites as a box comes up that reads "Cannot find server for (what ever web site I was trying to open). I have a strong signal strength. Seems like since I Upgraded to 14.04 there has always been problems. Since I don't know lots about computers I cannot try and find out what is going on. What ever it is, is affecting browseing the Internet and uploading pictures. For some reason even Microsoft has called me twice now about my computer. I tell them my computer is not Windows, it is a Linux computer and they don't know what to make of that. Hardly understand them either.

Not sure of what I can do about the above, it is very annoying.

Hi,

When I get Chrome installed I assume I then go to Package Manager and remove Firefox? Do I lose anything doing this?

Went to Google's website. Got Chrome up and clicked on Download. It was downloading and had a short time to go. I had steped away from the computer and when I came back it said "Failed".. So what do I do now?

I just got a box up with the message below:

E: dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run 'dpkg-configure -a' to correct the problem

E: _cache->open() failed, please report

I ran the first in a terminal without the quotation marks. Nothing showed up when I clicked Enter. Second line not sure who to report to.

Any suggestions?

I forgot to mention that I got the above messages after I clicked on Synaptic Package Manager, and put in the password for it to open. It didn't open got the messages instead. So what do you think is happening?

Try a reboot and retry. If you get the same error please run:

sudo fuser -vki /var/lib/dpkg/lock;sudo dpkg --configure -a

Then retry

I tried again this morning to download and install Chrome. I now have it installed but how do I make it my browser? I still cannot open the Package Manager as I get the same error messages as above.

Hi,

I just ran the command actionparsnip suggested. Below is the results.

margaret@margaret-Z62FM:~$ sudo fuser -vki /var/lib/dpkg/lock;sudo dpkg --configure -a
[sudo] password for margaret:
no talloc stackframe at ../source3/param/loadparm.c:4864, leaking memory
margaret@margaret-Z62FM:~$

What do I do about this and how do I start using Chrome?
