Libreoffice and Samba issues in Kubuntu

Asked by Ryan Turner

Ever since the release of 13.10, all my shares work through Dolphin except opening Libreoffice Docs of any Kind it seems, It is not Hardware related as it happens on all my computers!!!

I also know it's not a Ubuntu issue as the same release date Versions of Ubuntu work fine on the same hardware!!!

Only work around I have found in the gui side was to install Smb4k and it will mount the Share and open and save any office docs just fine!!

Issue being 2 things...
#1 it also leaves on the server a form of Thumbnail every time one saves their work
#2 Not only has Dolphin and Kubuntu never had this issue till 13.10 continuing through 14.04, it's a need for this to work for my desktops with out the need to install outside Smb Clients...

I assume it's a Mounting issue in KDE/Dolphin???

Is there any way to get Dolphin and or Kubuntu to mount/open/Modify Office Shares with out the need for Outside smb Cliants?

I have only been able to reproduce this in again Kubuntu 13.10-14.04 and Linux Mint KDE 16, all other distros seem to work fine in the same release date patterns

I shall re-install Kubuntu and get you this output!! I had to go with a Ubuntu cause it works in this situation.
I should have mentioned that in Kubuntu the Libreoffice works on internal Docs, but will show the bouncing icon and then disappear after a few seconds!!!

I tried other offices like Caligra, and they work on Kubuntu, but change the permissions and locks out any others from doing anything but 'Read Only' to the share docs even when changing permissions to allow anyone...

Please give me a day and I will get you this output

And sorry If I'm over explaining it, but I can Open any other Type of Share through Dolphin except Office Docs... It see's all my shares, but it''s only >LibreOffice that will not open anything
When <i tried to open it through LibreOffice itself it errors 'The Remote Proticol is not supported' as soon as I choose the Network Folders
Yet Again it works in any of the Gnome/Unity/Cinamon Desktops envournments

This Answered my question, It obviously wasa known KDE issue!!!

From the KDE Website for new KDE4.13

Smb4K is a SMB/CIFS (Windows) share browser for KDE. It uses the Samba software suite to access the SMB and CIFS shares of the local network neighborhood. Its purpose is to provide a program that's easy to use and has as many features as possible.

Features:
* Scanning for (active) workgroups, hosts, and shares
* Support of the CIFS (Linux) and SMBFS (FreeBSD) file system
* Mounting and unmounting of shares (using the KAuth framework)
* Access to the files of a mounted share using a file manager or terminal
* Auto-detection of external mounts and unmounts
* Remounting of previously used shares on program start
* Miscellaneous infos about remote network items and mounted shares
* Network search
* WINS server support
* Preview of the contents of a share
* Several methods to look up the initial list of workgroups and domains
* Default login
* Special handling of homes shares
* Ability to bookmark favorite shares and organize them in groups
* System tray widget
* Support of advanced Samba options
* Support of printer shares
* KWallet support
* Synchronization of a remote share with a local copy and vice versa
* Ability to define custom options for individual servers and shares
* Laptop support through the Solid hardware device framework
* Wake-On-LAN capabilities
* Plasmoid for desktop integration

Linux and FreeBSD are supported. Smb4K might also run under different operating systems.

Dissappointing one can not just use Dolphin like 13.04 and earlier!!!
But now we all know!!!

I have verified and reverified many times what Ryan turner has concluded. (https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+question/247912) The bouncing icon disappering is the last state to which this sharing works.

Though not useful, I found that by copying and pasting from other networked computers, i am able to work in MS office files in Kubuntu. Also I am able to paste to other systems.

The one issue still pending is, other windows xp, 7, 8, 8.1 computers are not even getting kubuntu in their network view though now all are in MSHOME! Any help please?

I have not understood whether "mounting" has got anything to do with this, as it is not clear what is mounting, how to do that and where to do that etc. Thanks.

Success though Partially, but because of my limited knowledge with terms here still some directories are not working.

Smb4K did the magic

I installed Smb4K from muon discover. opened the same. Now it lists all networked computers with ip address etc. On clicking, some directories decalre themselves to be automatically mounted and open in Libreoffice. But some directories ask for user name pass word and nothing works there. Hope knowledgeble people are able to guide me further with FULL instructions.
