updates and ati restricted driver
ok i am new to ubuntu and have not much of an idea on how things work beside sucesfuly installing.
i am having trouble with update and my graphics card.
1 update will not connect, here is the message i get when trying to update or add programes
Could not download all repository indexes
The repository might be no longer available or could not be contacted because of network problems. If available an older version of the failed index will be used. Otherwise the repository will be ignored. Check your network connection and the correct writing of the repository address in the preferences.

my laptop is a asus f3jp with a ati radeon mobility x1700 256mb graphics card the only other problem i had was fire fox would not connect either but i have fixed this problem by turning off ipv6 i am not behind a proxy i connect to my router wirelessly or wired.
please someone help as i realy like ubuntu and wish to keep using it i would hate to switch back 2 windows

Go to System>
You should then restart and everything should be working.
As far as not being able to access the repositories, that should be a temporary issue, you should try again, if not you can change your repositories by going to System>

I think there is something wrong with your DNS (domain name servers) setup as the IP address 1.0.0.0 can't be right

ok i am nearing my wits end, really really want to stick with ubuntu and dont want to give up.
still no luck with graphics card ati radion mobility x1700, when trying to enable the driver (system- administration- restricted divers manager) i get this message

i figure i need to download some kind of update.....wich brings me to my next major problem, i am at work (i work in remote area) and i need to set up a dial up internet connection, i need someone to show/explain how to do this i have all my isp numbers and user names ect...i did atempt to set it up myself but i get no dial tone when i try to connect i must be mising somthing!!!! and once i do get my dial up connected i need to fix my updates problem posted earlyer. PLEASE HELP

hello any one out there? please help i dont want to go back to windows, i dont know if this helps but to get fire fox to work i had to disable ipv6. the other thing i noticed is after fresh install no software sources are selected, and when i try to add/remove software it just keeps telling me to refresh, when updating nothing happens, then when i select software sources then try add/remove or update i get the above error
