Version 12.07 doesn't exist in ubuntu!! Its either 12.04 or 12.10. To check open a terminal and enter "lsb_release -a" (without qoutes) and hit enter. Please paste the output!

Since you have mentioned in the question that you have installed Ubuntu 12.04, I'd like to propose the following answer:

1) Hit the "Window" button --> Type System Settings and open it by clicking on the icon.
2) Look for the option "Keyboard Layout" and open it.
3) Under "Input sources to use" there is a "+" button --> click it. This opens a list of languages available.
4) Scroll down and select "Kannada".
5) Close the window.

The above steps should enable typing in Kannada. After those steps, to start typing in kannada, follow these steps:

In the "System tray", you'll find an icon (looking like a keyboard) and the letters "en" alongside it. Click it. You'll now be able to choose the keyboard layout. Start typing and enjoy!!

Can you help with this problem?
