It's a EKT mini laptop model GL-1201, Intel Atom N455 Processor, 2GB DDR3 Ram Memory, 320 GB HDD, LCD 10.1" Monitor, and had Windows 7 natively installed (now erased). It features a built in web camera.
Please excuse my ignorance but what do mean by cheese? Is this an application that I can install?

I have just installed cheese but the camera doesn't appear. I also pressed Fn+F1, which are the keys that enable the web camera but nothing happens.

Correction: I meant Fn+F10. These are the keys that enable the web camera. but nothing happens. With cheese I only get a dark screen.

oh its solved
Partial function key functionality can be fixed by doing the following:
1. Open up the Terminal application. (Ctrl+Alt+T)
2. Open your grub configuration file for editing as root:
sudo nano /etc/default/grub
3. Change the line that reads:
GRUB_CMDLINE_
to read:
GRUB_CMDLINE_
4. Save the file and exit the text editor. (Ctrl+O <Enter> then Ctrl+X)
5. Update grub:
sudo update-grub
6. Restart/Reboot your computer.

Vatsal H. Gor:
You are just amazing. I have a MSI U270 AMD netbook for 2-3 years. My webcam was not working with guvcview, cheese and skype. There was no dev/video. I follow your steps because my function keys was not working too... and my webcam is now working! It was switched off for all time.
Many, many, many thx for you!

In my Comment#11, I said that the solution posted by Vatsal H. Gor worked for me and my HP Probook 450 with Ubuntu 14.04. That was true for a while, but now I find the camera has stopped working in Ubuntu. When I boot into Windows on the same machine, the camera works. Can anyone help me?! I got this output from a uvcvideo command:
$ dmesg | grep uvcvideo
[ 20.392021] uvcvideo: Found UVC 1.00 device HP HD Webcam (04ca:7032)
[ 20.394751] usbcore: registered new interface driver uvcvideo

Vatsal H. Gor's solution also worked for me on an MSI GE62 laptop running 16.04 desktop. Initially I didn't see any indication of change while cheese was open but toggling the function key and running "dmesg | grep uvcvideo" showed me the camera was being found. Then I just resarted cheese and it worked so need to thank Tom Colley too.
