Screen goes black at Ubuntu x64 install

Asked by exarkun631

I have perused the other similar issues but none I think quite like mine. I am able to boot from the disk, and the Ubuntu options screen appears. The problems start as soon as I select the run live CD / install option. The screen goes black. I am confident that Ubuntu is running as it should, it's just that there is no GUI. I have tried booting in graphical safe mode but that doesn't work either. Below I have copied some info about my system, Hopefully someone will take pity on me and lend a hand as I am ready to give up on Ubuntu.

Please make some common check using first boot menu Ubuntu live cd options...
This: http://i18.tinypic.com/6tzzndc.jpg
Try to perform the "Memory test" and the "Check cd for defects"

When you see the black screen:
- first try to dynamically change screen resolution plese the press CTR + ALT + "+" and/or CTRL + ALT + "-"
- Try to restart the graphic layer press CTR + ALT + BACKSPACE

If you are still in trouble... please reboot your pc and starting with Ubuntu live cd please try to put some common Ubuntu kernel live cd options you can find the boot options howto here:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BootOptions
First parameter you can try by put them one by one or together are:
noacpi nolapic nodma all_generic_ide

If this don't work i suggest you to download and burn on a cd at lower speed you can do (4x)
here an howto https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BurningIsoHowto
the Ubuntu alternate install cd iso image ( ubuntu-7.10-alternate-i386.iso ) you can download this cd from here: http://releases.ubuntu.com/7.10/

Hope this helps

The same thing happened to me using an nvidia display card similar to yours.
After using the alternate install cd the problem cleared up and there was no blank screen.
I hope this works for you,good luck,Jon.
