Screen Resolution

Asked by jason little

Monitor: Samsung SyncMaster 216BW (native resolution is 1680X1050)
Graphics Card: Radeon RV200 QW
Operating System: Ubuntu 7.10

Resolution of 1440x900:
everything is fine (ubuntu's output resolution matches what the monitor's perceived input resolution is)

Resolution of 1680x1050:
1/3 of the right hand side of the screen does not show on the monitor and the portion that does show looks stretched and larger than it should (larger text than on the 1440x900 screen); however when looking at the resolution that the monitor thinks it is receiving it says it is 1680x1050.

Resolution of 1920X1200:
everything is fine (ubuntu's output resolution matches what the monitor's perceived input resolution is)

When running Ubuntu 7.04 everything was fine at 1680x1050 which is the resolution that I would like to run at, since it is the native resolution of my monitor.

Any suggestions??

p.s. I've tried with one other video card (onboard one) with the same issue noted above.

Thanks in advance for any light you can shed on this weird problem.

Hello,

Thank you for the help.

I connected using the DVI rather than VGA cable, and that fixed my
problem.

I don't know how, but it did.
