How to launch Qnext after installing it on Ubuntu 12.04

Asked by Julianloui

I've just downloaded and decompressed qnextsetup.tgz as follows on my Ubuntu 12.04 system, but cannot launch this application. These are Qnext's instructions.

tar -xf qnextsetup.tgz
cd qnext
./qnext

The qnext directory shows many files and the above process did not generate any errors. But I just cannot launch the application. Should the ./qnext command automatically open the application? Any help will be appreciated.

I don't know this Qnext program, but if you want this for VOIP service, try Egika and/or Empathy. Are good programs.

Also you have to know that you didn't install anything on your PC. This was just an extraction and you ran a binary(probably) file.
But maybe some dependencies are missing.
Read inside qnext folder any README or INSTALL file (if exist).

The following launch procedure works fine on my Ubuntu 13.04 laptop:

cd ~

wget http://downloads.qnext.com/desktop/qnextsetup.tgz

tar -zxvf qnextsetup.tgz

cd qnext/

./qnext

I tried those commands and it launched the application just fine....

Mark,

Thank you very much for your prompt help. Even though I've been
updating my Ubuntu Linux, there
may still be something wrong with my computer. After I issue your first
two commands

cd~
wget //http://downloads.qnext.com/desktop/qnextsetuuip.tgz

Linux returns "Scheme missing ".

Nik,

Thank you very much for your prompt help. I haven't been able to find
any helpful info in the qnext directory's files. It's so much simpler
to install Qnext under Windows XP.

You got that error, because my instructions were not correctly followed.

In order to avoid typing mistakes, please copy-paste my commands into the Terminal (one by one) instead of trying to type them.

My command does not have // in front of http.

The correct command is

wget http://downloads.qnext.com/desktop/qnextsetup.tgz

as I already stated in post #2

I also suggest visiting

using a webbrowser, instead of using an Email client.

Mark,

I am profoundly sorry for having misled you with my e-mail's typos, which were caused by my newness to Thunderbird Mail and my MacBook's queer typing convention, especially its lousy delete key. As I am typing this letter to you, I see key bounces left and right. The only reason why I am using this used Apple machine is that its hardware is fairly up-to-date and that my other computers are much older. Another reason is that I have received it as a gift from a relative.

Please trust me that what you saw in my previous reply was a distortion and that I had entered your commands 100% faithfully.

By the way, I strongly feel that it's imperative that Launchpad provide its users the capability to edit and revise their postings in order to av‎oid negative outcomes and promote clear communications. I'm confident that this Qnext matter under discussion will get resolved one way or another even though I am still a Linux neophyte.

Lastly, please accept my sincere thanks.
