upgrading to raring ringtail stalled

Asked by John Wilson

During the upgrade to Raring Ringtail my computer froze for several hours
Shut the computer down and now when I power up the computer does not read the hard drive, no GRUB screen appears.
Should I reinstall Ubuntu from a live CD/USB drive?
Thanks,
John

You can boot to the USB and reinstate the boot loader, you can also continue the upgrade with:

sudo apt-get -f install

Have made a live DVD of 13.04 and hopefully I can boot up with that.
My desktop screen is totally black with a flashing white spot close to the
top left corner.
If I make a new installation can I restore my data using the backup on
Dejadup?
Thanks
John
