Unrecognized touchpad

Asked by Ibrahim-hammad

I was working on Ubuntu 12.04 LTS and chose to upgrade to 12.04.2 LTS. When I installed 12.04.2 immediately after the installation finished and upon first load it recommended me to update the Graphic driver , Which I did. When the PC started again it did not go to the log screen and kept me on a black screen doing nothing. I had to reinstall 12.04.2 again. This time worked good and I did not chose to update the Graphic driver, however, the touch-pad is not working or recognized. When I go to system settings and click on the mouse icon, I don't find touch pad tab there.

- I installed Ubuntu alongside with Windows 7 ( Touch-pad is working perfectly in windows)
- I'm using Asus K43sv series
       - processor : Intel® Core™ i7-2630QM CPU @ 2.00GHz × 8
       - Grapgics : Geforce GT 540M CUDA - 2 GB
       - OS type: 64 bit
- Now system details shows version 12.04 NOT 12.04.2
- The system details shows that the graphic driver as UNKNOWN
- The Touch-Pad is not working at all under Ubuntu

I tried to read solutions for similar problem (not with same Asus) and applied a recommended change to the Grub settings as instructed and performed and update to the Grub through the terminal and rebooted the system, but the problem persisted.

Is there a way out of this?

Is there a shortcut to enable and disable the touch pad? If so, press it and test.

No, actually when opening the mouse & touch pad icon from the system setting it only shows a mouse device. I've tried to download another software to help solve this, as I downloaded a pointing devices software, and when I open it there will be a tab for touch pad but nothing responses to any action. Again, touch pad is working properly on windows right now.

Thank you.

I tried the codes, but nothing happened. I checked the mouse from the
system settings and no change as well, I mean only one tab for the mouse
and nothing mentioned for the touch pad.

I also tried to reboot and checked again, also nothing happened.

Ibrahim Hammad

I search throughout the problem and performed the following actions, and after I rebooted things worked out fine.

I ran the following commands:

1- sudo apt-get install xserver-xorg-input-synaptics

2- I ran also:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:atareao/atareao

sudo apt-get update

sudo apt-get install touchpad-indicator

3- I installed the following using the command : sudo apt-get install dconf-tools
Then edited it .

I don't know what was wrong and what made it back again, but it works now fine.

Thanks for all of those who contributed on this issue

Regards,
Ibrahim Hammad.
