Dear jim,

Did you install the drivers for the printer using Gnome printer utility?

To access this on the default Ubuntu installation, goto System --> Administration --> Printing.

Alternatively, you can open up a Terminal and execute the command "system-config-printer" (without quotation marks).

The utility is fairly intuitive, but be sure to have the printer connected while setting things up.

Thanks, but I already used the printer utility---but double checked it---seems fine. Though I am now getting the following error message--even with the test print function.........................."CUPS SERVER ERROR "Client-Error-Document-Format-Not Supported.".......I concede-----any other suggestions? BTW I do appreciate your first response.

Actually I originally tried to print a jpeg photo.....however since I got no response....I ran the print config.....and then simply tried to run a "test print"----thats when I received the "CUPS SERVER ERROR" for everything

Dear jim,

Try restarting cups. The command is "sudo /etc/init.d/cupsys restart" (without quotes).

Did you alter the information stored in /etc/cups/cupd.conf or any of the related CUPS configuration files?
