Can't access home Windows network

I'm running Ubuntu 12.04 and am trying to access a windows network (a HP desktop with Windows 7 Home and an ASUS running Win7 Home), Also trying to define a printer in Ubuntu, which is attached to HP desktop. So far, nothing works. The Windows network works fine with shared folders and printer.
Also from the Windows machine, I tried to access the Ubuntu machine, but only get endless requests for a signon and password. Nothing works.
Any ideas.?

I think Warren missed the point and I do NOT appreciate his sarcasm
about using a Windows printer, which is exactly my question.

Where is the sarcasm ? He provide info that would be useful for you.

You didn't say if you already have samba installed or not.

The second link I gave you covers samba so gets the computers talking to each other.

The first configures your printers. The bit that's missing is about setting up a print server on your windows machine. If as you say your windows network is fine then. As the link says "Euh... sorry, this section is missing, but anyway, why would you want this :-) ?"

You've already done it or your other windows PC couldn't print. Not that its difficult you just click on the printer in Windows and select "share my printer"

If having read the links I sent you you still have a problem we will try to help further.
