New comer to linux, but I am having problems getting widges and running them, there are a lot of mac widgets available, will they run through linux ?

Probably not. Try gdesklets. You can install from apps-add/remove. I've never used them so I don't know much about them but they are widgets for gnome (the desktop environment you are using if you have regular ubuntu installed). In kubuntu superkaramba is probably what you are looking for.

There is an application you can install called gdesklets, it is the closest thing to the mac style widgets that I know of.

I went to this site, I have being getting these programs but in package form, now I need to get away from the run command of windows which is not available, how do I execute these programs

What programs are you trying to execute? In Linux you rarely execute anything when installing. You use the package manager. The link provided by Steve will explain the package manager.

For further reference, gnome has the equivalent to the windows run dialog,
press Alt+F2, have fun.
