power button set to shutdown...:(

Asked by hormosapiens

my spec: dell inspiron 6400/1505 , bios rev:A14,dual boot (xubuntu7.10, kernel 2.6.22-14,xfce4.4.1/windows xp).

actual setting: when pressed normally fiscal power button shutdown the system.
I need to set power button.... when pressed, show the window with options like shut down, restart, logout, hibernate. then i can decide what to do. so I need to be asked before like normally happens in ubuntu/gnome and kubuntu/kde.

attention! im not talking to press and hold power button for more than 5 sek, this is working well. and in some forums people tell me to mess with bios. I'm not sure if i can do that since im on dual boot with windows xp.

any idea will be appreciated
thanks for all.
and many many thanks for this whole launchpad.

From the top panel menu, go into: "System" -> "Preferences" -> "Power Management"

Into the "General" tab, you should see an option called "When power button is pressed". Change its value to ""Ask me"

Is that what you're looking for ?

oh man:)
if it was as simple as you described here I'd have found it myself. the
porblem is that I don't have any power management window in xfce 4.4.1
I know what you talking cause this is exactly where I can find it, but in
Gnome.
but anyway, your answer leads me to think that maybe I should look forward
to install that same app (power management) in xfce.
if I can't this means that I still have the problem.
thanks
