downloaded ubuntu live cd but cant be read by windows
I recently downloaded ubuntu live to cd. I want to eventually replace windows os with linux, but i want to be able to test drive ubuntu before making a total switch.
I am not a computer genious or whiz, just a user. From everything I have read about ubunto and debian, they are user friendly, but I like that ubuntu does not have 18000plus programs or files I can choose from, that is just to much for me to deal with. But at the same time I like the idea that I can expand my os with ubuntu should I choose. Basically, I am looking for a user friendly os that is safer and more reliable than windows.
My problem is that after I downloaded ubuntu live desktop and copied it to a cd, my windows will not read it to open it. I do not recall the exact wording but it had somethng to do with iso 9660 (or something like that). Then my windows xp2 did all it could do to try to crash on me (a problem that comes and goes for me with windows -- hence my search for a more reliable and worry free os system). I was able to avoid the crash onlly because I am used to the moody windows os, it seems to work great for a week or two then goes on a insane rampage for a couple hours or days.
I do not do any programming, only use the computer for speed and ease of use and a great filing system, and of course I like to keep up with the world via the internet and chat with my many international friends.
I would appreciate if anyone had any advice for me. I am convinced that I will eventually become a linux os user, and happily be done with windows. But I need to be able to take the first step; I have done the research now I need the ability to discover.
Thank you all in advance.
