Ubuntu 7.10 CD Installation stops after kernel is loaded

Asked by rafaelignacio

I am unable to proceed with the installation. After I hit <install> in the opening screen, the kernel loads up. The screen will then go blank and immediately it will display a message "Can not allocate resource Region 3 for device 000.00.00.0". This message ids flashed for about a second. Then the Ubuntu logo shows up together with the scrolling bar below it. It stays in this condition and nothing else happens.

I have a Pentium 4 on an Intel mother board. I have an ATI All-In-Wonder PCIe card. I have two CD/DVD drives either of which I regularly use for booting up. I have a SATA master hard drive and an IDE slave drive.

I downloaded Ubuntu 7.10 iso, burned it on CD using InfraCorder and verified my CD to be a good copy using winMd5Sum.

My first time to venture into Linux...Please help.

Hi !

you may want to try to boot using the boot parameters given here https://help.ubuntu.com/community/DebuggingIRQProblems

to add a boot parameter, hit f6 when you get the first ubuntu screen, and add it to the line. Tell me if you find a parameter that makes your computer boot fine

Yes!

I was able to install it with the "noapic" boot parameter.
I still do not have connection to my wireless network, though, but I'll figure it out somehow..
with help from guys like you.

THANK YOU.

Cool.

If you cannot boot after install, you can add this parameter to the boot line as well, and you can add the parameter at the appropriate line in the file /boot/grub/menu.lst in order to make this change permanent
