install snort and use log

I have unbuntu installed on VMware, I have loaded snort-mysql and
oinkmaster. I have not rvd an error message as of yet, snort will not run. I
assume that I have to make changes to snort.conf but not sure what I need to
change so that it will capture the packets.

mmh I am not familiar with snort so I cant tell you what changes need to be made to the .conf file. Did you check out their website for any documentation?
