I would like to access my nework MS Windows drives in LINUX. I have a network drive and three laptops. Does Ubuntu use NSF, SAMBA or some other means to make this connection?

You can use samba to connect to your M$ Windows network.

You probably want to stay away from NFS as you will need to setup an NFS server on Windows machine.
