Phonetic Typing in Tamil

I want to type in Tamil similar to Google Transliterate for Windows. I have trouble in installing in Ubuntu 11.1. Can anyone guide me? (I am not interested in Tamil K-board)

Dear Chris,

I am able to install the phonetic key board. But it may not be as good as
google transliterate. But it will serve my purpose
