DSM = Data Source Manager.
Are you using a relational database on Ubuntu? Which one?

Database connections are not centralized in Administrative Tools as they are in Windows.

Download SQL Developer from Oracle (free) and make sure you can connect at all.

Are you attempting to run the database on your Ubuntu machine? If so, where which Oracle version were you planning to use?

Be aware that Oracle supports installations on RedHat Linux but not Ubuntu.

There are instructions on the web for installing 11G on Ubuntu 10 and 11.04.

Uninstall Oracle before upgrading Ubuntu. There are severe side effects if Oracle binaries run on the wrong Ubuntu version. These can occur during boot which will prevent a newly upgraded Ubuntu from starting up.
