Can't have toutchpad pane function on my Aspire 5670

I have Kubuntu 11.10 intalled on an Acer Aspire 5670 laptop. I can't use it's touchpad, and I am obliged to use a mouse instead. In System Settings SynPS/2 Synaptics Touchpad is shown as installed

No, both combinations fail to activate the pad
