What to do after Time

Asked by BonnieLS

I seem to be stumped. I am trying to install Ubuntu 7.10 (Gutsy Gibbon). I get as far as the time zone setting screen, I select my time zone and then nothing happens. I searched all over for a "next" or "continue" button, but could not find one. What can I do?

What is your screen resolution are you able to view the timezone window entirely on your screen...?
Have you wait some more time...
Have you moved the mouse pointer on the screen...

Have you done some common check, from the first Ubuntu boot menu: http://i5.tinypic.com/27xq9w8.jpg
"Memory test" and "Check cd for Defects"

Please give us some feedback

Hope this helps

1. No, I cannot see the entire window on my screen
2. Yes, I have waited a very long time
3. Yes, I have moved the mouse pointer on the screen
4. I tried to make the window smaller with Alt-F8 and moving the mouse
while pressing the button, but it will not get small enough for me to
see the bottom of the window
5. Since I am obviously a new Linux user, I don't quite understand:
"Have you done some common check, from the first Ubuntu boot menu:
http://i5.tinypic.com/27xq9w8.jpg"Memory test" and "Check cd for Defects"

I think your problem is that the button is under your screen area and you don't see it.
When your Ubuntu install cd is started please try to press CTRL+ALT+"+" or CTRL+ALT+"-"
keyboard keys to dynamically change and get high screen resolution.

Hope this help.

Neither Ctrl Alt + nor Ctrl Alt - made any changes to the screen
resolution. Is there a timing factor to this? If I held the keys down
and double clicked on the "Install" icon, nothing happened. If I double
clicked first, then put the keys down, the screen came up as usual.
Same thing happened when I held the keys down, right clicked on the
mouse and selected "open."

Hi !

If you cannot see the entire window on your screen, try to move it.

to do that, juste hold the ALT key and then click anywhere within the window and drag it.

try to reach the buttons on the bottom right.

Hope that helps

It's good: Ubuntu will run very well on this pc...

So, i think you have only a graphic issue.

At this boot menu http://i5.tinypic.com/27xq9w8.jpg

try to select "Start Ubuntu in safe graphic mode"

Hope this help

Good !

But your screen resolution may have been badly detected by ubuntu. After finishing your installation, do not hesitate to post another question if the resolution have been misconfigured.

Thank you for your willingness to help. Oliver Lacroix suggested moving
the window with Alt-mouse arrow. It worked wonderfully.
