É sabido que alguns winmodems causam incompatibilidade com o áudio,
porque usam o mesmo chipset. Seu computador possui modem integrado?

Você faz uso desse modem? Em caso positivo, infelizmente a solução seria adquirir um modem externo, já que, como disse, winmodems costumam usar o mesmo chipset de áudio, o que causa incompatibilidades no sistema operacional.

Em caso negativo, você poderia desinstalar o driver desse winmodem e reiniciar seu computador para ver se o Ubuntu reconhece o áudio novamente.
