Hi,

There are instructions for installing without a CD drive here: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Installation/WithFloppies

However, depending on the specification of your computer, Ubuntu may not be the most appropriate Linux distribution. You may prefer something much smaller and with lower system requirements, such as Damn Small Linux. The system requirements for Ubuntu 7.10 are:

"Ubuntu is available for PC, 64-Bit and Mac architectures. At least 256 MB of RAM is required to run the desktop install CD. Install requires at least 4 GB of disk space."

Regards,

Chris
