What version of Picasa are you running, and how did you install it?

Also, please open a Terminal window (Ctrl+Alt+T or Applications > Accessories > Terminal), type

picasa

and press enter. Then describe what happens. If Picasa runs, that means that the shortcut to Picasa was what was broken. It's more likely that there is a deeper (but still quite possibly solvable) problem, and if that is the case, there might be messages written in the Terminal that shed light on the problem. So, after attempting to run Picasa in this way, please select all the text in the Terminal window (Edit > Select All), copy it to the clipboard (Edit > Copy), and paste it here.

Thanks your suggestion triggered a thought, I deleted all of Picasa
using the package manager, then I downloaded Picasa from the Google
website. I installed the downloaded copy and now Picasa works on my
Ubuntu 10.10.

Many Thanks for the help, BrianW.
