Hi:

I don't know if I understand you, there is no root account in Ubuntu, you can use the sudo command, and type the pass again, if you have addmin right you will execute commands as root.

Easiest method

Boot the computer and press Esc to enter the GRUB menu

Select "Ubuntu, kernel 2.6.whatever (recovery mode)"
      Press Enter to boot

Hi sindhu,
The root account is disabled by default in ubuntu, due to security reasons... However if you have to recover your root password:
http://www.linuxforums.org/security/howto:_recover_root_password.html

this is a nice tutorial.

When you get your new root password, you can login on a terminal and use

passwd username ex: passwd sindhu

to change the user password also (if you like)(Just for your information..!;) )

br,

Bhavani Shankar
