Does ubuntu 7.04 work with Windows 98SE?

Asked by Bea

I've received the ubuntu 7.04 CD and have been trying to install with no success. When attempting to install, I get the error message, "Your CPU does not support long mode. Use a 32bit distribution." Does this mean that there is a different version of ubuntu that will work with my 32bit system? I'm using a older desktop computer with Windows 98SE operating system.

Yes, you probably need the 32-bit version.

Thanks much. Do you know how I can get the 32-bit version. I can't seem to locate it.

That would be a standard personal computer. x86 architecture (that is the processor that matters not your currently installed system), at:
http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/download

Also if you're low on ram (<256mb) you'll probably want an alternate cd.

Can you help with this problem?
