Hello,
Please paste or attach your /etc/apt/sources.list.
It looks like you have duplicate entries, and this is causing update-manager to exit with an error.

etc is a folder in the root directory. Ubuntu calls the root directory "filesystem". Open up places - computer and you will see an icon for filesystem. Open that and then find the folder called etc. Open it and find the folder called apt and so on.

Or, you can open a terminal (apps - accessories) and type

gedit /etc/apt/sources.list

to open it in read only mode or type

gksudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list

to open it with root (ie admin) rights to edit.

You seem to have some unnecessary entries in sources.list, some double, and that's probably causing problems.

Type:
sudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list
and try commenting out (placing an # at the line start) all lines after "# AUTOMATIX REPOS START".

This will leave you without edgy (older release) and multiverse (non-free) repositories, but you can reenable them later if really needed.

sudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list

not found by terminal

Maybe you're not using gnome and don't have gedit?

Default editor for xubuntu is called "mousepad", and for kubuntu it's "kate".
At least you should have "nano", but that's not very handy.

Unfortunately you can't install anything till you fix your sources.list :)

Try using mousepad or kate or nano instead od gedit.
