Installing mouse pointers

Asked by Bruce M.

I would like to install new mouse pointers.

I have the file: 58912-classic gold.tar.gz

and when I use File Roller I see:

Classic Gold - Folder
   under that:
   Cursors - Folder
   Sources - Folder
   index.theme - 52 bytes - theme - 23 May 2007, 32:32

1. Where do I unarchive them to? and
2. How do I go about installing them?

Thanks in advance

Hello,
You will not need to extract that tarball. Gnome's cursor manager will install the theme from the tarball file.

You will need to install gcursor by issuing:
1. $ sudo apt-get install gcursor.

2. Once you have gcursor installed you can Go to System tab ---> Preferences ---> Cursor Selection

3. Push the Install Theme button, browse and select the cursor. No need to unpack the cursor files. Gcursor will do that for you.

4. Now pick the cursor you want in the Xcursor menu and press the Close button. The new cursor will first appear when you log in next time.
