ubuntu loading problem

try using the alternate install CD

go to http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/download

make your choices, then near the bottom, tick "Check here if you need the alternate desktop CD. This CD does not include the Live CD, instead it uses a text-based installer."

I had the same problem with both regular and alternate install CDs. It hangs up as it is loading INITRD.GZ. Same in 2 computers.

is this is what ubuntu comittee is made for plz help me friends i need to install this , understand how important is this linux for me , i want to install it on my computer now plz. help ...

It seems as though there was some problem launching the installer, to
actually install there's a few pages of easy questions and setup, then
it does it's thing, it's not just magic. If you're havving real issues
wit hthe live CD installer, consider filing a bug report, or using the
"Alternative CD" (Alt CD) which uses a non graphical (but still easy to
use) installation system, as you already have a feel for Ubuntu ro mthe
LiveCd anyway.

I had the same problem. My computer would just hang and sit there for hours without doing anything.
(at least that's how it looked to me)
I was trying to boot it to an older Dell P3 with 256 ram. After repeated attempts it seemed to try to boot more rapidly.
I had an error that it couldn't see the floppy drive, when I just let it sit there for a while without doing anything it continued booting!
Then I got an error message about having errors in some sort of system that it might fix on my next log-in.
I just sat there and waited, then it continued after a while.
I chose use the entire hard drive when partitioning, since there was nothing on the hard drive and the custom partitioning that the book I was reading recommended didn't seem to work.
Finally it booted up and ran fine. (more or less)
The keyboard started typing numbers instead of letters a couple of times, but I just saved my data to a thumb drive that I got for free and rebooted.
I have now successfully installed Ubuntu on two old laptops and two even older desktops( PC's 500 Mghz 384 ram)
You just have to keep at it. Ask questions, read, try, try, try. I think that's why you can get a job doing this. It takes a little brains, but a lot of patience. Good luck in your adventure! bobtom
