Cannot hotsync Handspring Visor (Palm OS)

Asked by Jim

Ubuntu 7.04

The Gnome Pilot install wizard gets me to the part where I do a hotsync and the Handspring Visor (palm OS) gives the following message:

The connection between your handheld and the desktop could not be established. Please check your setup and try again. This is zero informative as it does not specify what I am to be looking for, and where.

The docking cradle is connected to the desktop via usb.

In the device settings stage it did find my name and an ID no. on the device.

Has anyone successfully connected a palm device to Ubuntu 7.04. If so, could you give me the specific settings that work for you?

Jim

Search the ubuntu forums - this has already been answered there. I should add a bug report. The short, hackNslash answer is to add 'visor' to /etc/modules. Somewhere in the bowels of either udev or hotplug this needs to be fixed.

I looked. Not answered for Ubuntu 7.04. I tried the cure shown for
version 6 but it did not work. When I then ran gpilotd I got the
following:

jmangst@dell:~$ gpilotd
gpilotd-Message: gnome-pilot 2.0.15 starting...
gpilotd-Message: compiled for pilot-link version 0.12.1
gpilotd-Message: compiled with [VFS] [USB] [IrDA] [Network]

(gnome-pilot:10328): libgpilotdcm-WARNING **: Number of devices is
configured to 0

(gnome-pilot:10328): libgpilotdcm-WARNING **: No accessible devices
available

(gnome-pilot:10328): libgpilotdcm-WARNING **: Number of PDAs is
configured to 0
gpilotd-Message: Activating CORBA server
gpilotd-Message: bonobo_activation_active_server_register = 2
gpilotd-Message: Cannot register gpilotd because already active
jmangst@dell:~$

This is just so much gibberish for me - a gui guy - but maybe it will
mean something to you.

Thanks
Jim

Aha! I set the PDA connections to usb/serial and the gnome wizard connection to usb: and it worked. Problem solved.
