converting mp4 to avi to play on mp3 player

Asked by Michelle Walker

I have a media player that I play movies (movies are in the public domain BTW) on that have been converted from mp4 format to DiVx avi format. I used to do this with Youtube Converter when I had that other OS :). Anything comparable in Ubuntu? The device is a Pyrus Electronics media player which I love.

Thanks

Besides online conversion, websearch suggests e.g. Avidemux, ffmpeg.
