Xai SteelSeries Laser Mouse Issues

Asked by MorphOne567

I have a SteelSeries Xai mouse running in Ubuntu 10.04 x86_64, I've noticed that there is some erratic mouse movements occurring when just letting the mouse sit completely still as well as during use (just for comparison or troubleshooting purposes). Every 15-30 seconds or so the position of the pointer will accelerate towards one side, then the next. The pointer only moves approximately a quarter of an inch when it happens, but due to the frequency of it's happenstance, it can become very annoying. This mouse is by definition a proprietary one, but it is incredibly high-quality and configurable beyond belief, hopefully someone out there knows how to fix the unusual behavior I seem to be experiencing. I figured that it was being caused by a discrepancy between the default gnome-based pointer settings, so I tried to change the polling to be as close as possible as what I know the hardware settings are associated with the mouse (the Xai has built-in memory and firmware that it uses to calibrate what cpi it performs at), so i edited the "/etc/modules" with gedit and administrative rights and set the polling to "1", being the highest value (1000Hz), I also added "-r usbhid" to cause the setting to initiate automatically at boot time. The solution seemed to work for a couple of days, but I notice it's gone back to accelerating in either direction again...Any help would be outstanding, and greatly appreciated.

Try adding the boot options:

i8024.reset
and/or
i8024.nomux=1
and/or
irqpoll

May help

 Hey, ActionParsnip,

I just wanted to say thank you very much for responding to my inquiry so quickly and for being so supportive of Linux and open software. I've been playing around with Ubuntu for a little while and am a very new user, although I can do and am steadily learning to do things from the terminal, it's great to know that people like you can assist in giving that nudge forward, through a simple command and editing of a text file.

 I'm sure you get e-mail's like this all the time...lol...can't wait to see you hit that 200,000 Karma Points! Thanks again.

P.S. Could you tell me exactly what the settings you gave me actually do? What is i8024? Thanks in advance.

Cheers, mate
