Installation of Gutsy Tribe 5 hangs trying to configure Tomboy

Asked by Mike Hoskinson

I am using the alternate install iso to do a fresh install of Gutsy Tribe 5. It goes along fine until the progress bar says 85% and the action is listed as "configuring Tomboy". Twice it stopped at the same place. I have not checked the checksum but did choose the menu option to check the CD and it checked out OK. The computer is an MSI Fuzzy LX800 mini-itx board with an AMD LX800 processor and associated graphics. I have 2GB of ram. I am trying to install this on a 4GB CF card that is hda1 from a cdrom hda2. I am a newcomer to Ubuntu. I did get Feisty to run on this system without much trouble but found that it did not have the amd LX video drivers. Can somebody advise how I can figure out what is going wrong with this install? Thanks in advance.

Coming here, you know you're going to get the canned response. The
testing release is not for newcomers, it's not even really recommended
for oldbies. that being said, have you tried the LiveCD? Funnily enough
usually the problems lie in the desktop CD, but if you have an issue
with the alt CD, who knows, it's a completely different method of
installation. you might also simply try reburning, or try the daily
images, which are up to date snapshots of that day.

I get exactly the same with the alternate cd I downloaded yesterday. Could just be a test build issue, although I hope it's not a bug that gets built into Gutsy.

I've checked the MD5 of the iso I burnt from, it matches up ok. And I've checked the integrity of the disc, from the boot options the disc provides.

I'm having this problem installing gutsy (using alternate CD) under virtual box running under a gutsy host (which installed fine, also using alternate)

If i remember correctly, the ubuntu installation also hung there for around 5 minutes before continuing...

erm, I left it for well over an hour, apparently it finally continued. It took waaay too long though.

Can you help with this problem?
