hp deskjet printer D2300

Asked by john

the above printer was installed with a download driver from the hp website on ubuntu 7.04. It is working well. My question is whether it is possible to get the maintenance and utilities to operate as well (as it does on Vista) for the checking of ink levels, nozzle alignment etc.

Thank you for the link. I have followed it, but am not sure whether I am to follow the instructions from beginning to end or simply the part concerning hp tools. I have the printer driver loaded and I have in the system somewhere hp tools, but it is not where the website says it should be and, as far as I know, it is not linked to the printer. Please, a little more guidance. Thanks

Instructions from the website page on the suggested link have been followed from scratch, and I have installed a printer. However when I go to the section 'Setting up printers to use hplip,' I am not making any real progress. It seems as if I have to install the printer again. I am unsure hw to progress. Please spell out the steps for making the link between hplip and the printer.

Thank you for the suggestion. I have explored it and taken some other actions and now have the HP Device manager connecting to the printer, and giving the necessary information about the printer, ink levels etc. Thanks, Mathias for your help.

I am new to ubuntu 7.04 and, in the main, like it very much. As to how the connection was made to the printer I am not sure. I searched the internet for possibleer solutions, none of which, as far as I know, worked. I still had the printer only partially recognised. I uninstalled both printer and hplip and re-installed them, still no connection. Then, thinking that I had done a lot of installing and uninstalling, I went in search of a way to clean up the disk, and did so with auto-clean command in the terminal. Some time later I tried the Device Manager and found that the printer was fully recognised and that the tab pages were giving details of the printer ink levels etc. However I also discovered that the buttons in the DM do not function. That problem I am still searching to solve.

Whether there is a real link between autoclean and the DM functioning as it should, except for the buttons, I am not sure.
