Use the following commands in a terminal (Konsole) will help us to identify which network card you have:-

lspci | grep -i net

lshw -C net

What do they return?

Hi,
I checked the command on another box running Kubuntu 7.04. its running fine and gives the details that the box has a wireless adapter and a wired Intel Lan card.
but when i use the command in the new box (on which i'm trying to install) the live cd says command not found.(both Ispci and Ishw)
what do i do now?

more details:
the motherboard says the LAN card is a high speed card 10/100/1000 which is not the usual 10/100

lspci is definitely on the live cd, are you sure you typed it correctly?

Erk, "unknown device" isn't good. It indicates the linux kernel has no clue what it is. I am guessing it's very new.

Can you run lspci again with the -n parameter to get the pci ID.

lspci -n

Look for the line starting 00.19.0 and you should see the pci ID starting 8086. Here's mine so you can see what it looks like:-

03:03.0 0280: 8086:4220 (rev 05)

Well, you're not the only person with this problem with that video card.

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=492907

I will convert this to a bug report so we can find out if it is supported in gutsy.

Maybe this network card could work with the Windows network driver and ndiswrapper ?

hello,
I'm replying to the mail you had earlier requesting for more information
about the bug reported about the non-functionality of the ethernet card.
please check the attachment for
1>dmesg.log
2>lspci-nn.log

i got the following output for the command uname -a
"linux ubuntu 2.6.20-15-generic #2 smp sun apr 15 07:36:31 UTC 2007 i686
gnu/linux"

Hope to see Ubuntu on my desktop soon!

thank you
purnateja
