microphone doesnt on skype

how do i get my microphone to work on skype, i bought a new one, this works on windows xp but not on here, how do i get it to work?

Hello,

move your mouse over the speaker icon in the upper right corner and press the right mouse button. Then press Strg+O. In the up coming volume control click on the menu item Edit ->properties and mark the Mic for visible. And after that control you mic volume via the Tab record.

ok, i really need to be able to speak on skype, could you tell me what i could do, or what microphone i should buy that would be compatable with this system. Please
