Want Personal Finance Software like Quicken

Asked by Jim

I'm looking for a Quicken-like program to run on Ubuntu. I see that Gnufin will import quicken files. Will Gnufin run on Ubuntu 7.04? I notice that it is not listed in the Add/Remove listing of programs or the Package manager listings and I am afraid to download it for fear of irrevocably screwing up my computer with incompatible software.

Perhaps Gnucash can solve your problem (http://www.gnucash.org/)?
Gnucash can track finances in multiple accounts, keeping running and reconciled balances. It has an X based graphical user interface, double entry, a hierarchy of accounts, expense accounts (categories), and can import Quicken QIF files and OFX files.
Just check it out with Add/Remove and if doesn't satisfy your needs remove it; no harm done to your system.

You also have proprietary software which runs on Linux (for instance: http://www.moneydance.com/) or you can try to run Quicken through wine (even though the reports in the db are not very encouraging).

Thanks Cesare, this is a big help. I do not know why I failed to find
this on the Add/Remove list, but is is there now. I just switched from
a Windows environment and it is taking some time for me to find my way
around this system.
