actionparsnip i have installed ubuntu 10.04 beta 2 and i would like to know how i can get thunderbird 2.0 not thunderbird 3.0 that is in the software center . personal note i dislike 3.0 ==because of that fat bar in the middle of the read mail page.

i have thunderbird 2.0 downloaded and extracted to a file .but now i can`t do any thing else with it .HELP PLEASE !

have you remove the other version of thunderbird?

i would go to your terminal under your applications and unistall the 3.0 if you can and then build the other package

i do not have 3.0 installed . can not find any google search on the subject with 10.04 .

Why was this aimed at me specifically. This is a public forum for anyone to contribute.

There is the tar.gz way, just extract the file somewhere and point /usr/bin/thunderbird to the binary in the extracted folder:
ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/thunderbird/releases/2.0b2/linux-i686/en-US

i wanted the right answer the first time ! i tried this last night and it did not work i have tried two more times today with no luck ,got thunderbird 3.0 again ,twice ! so how can the fat bar in the middle of the read mail page be displayed like 2.0 does ?

i run clamav recursive scan on home folder now thunderbird 3.0 will not run. tried repair mode at restart made no change

went to software center remove thunderbied then reinstalled working now .
