Asked by T Coram

HP Pavilion Laptop PC with Ubuntu 9.10 and Windows 7 installed on dual boot.

Is it possible to remove Ubuntu without disturbing my Windows installation.
I need windows and have another laptop that I have installed ubuntu 9.1 on.

I did as said using Win 7 not XP.
It did not work, I could'nt reboot after, no way.
I am now having to re install windows 7.
Even my repair disc or image copy would not repair the bootup.
Dont try it if using Win7 .
I would still like to know a remedy just in case though, any one else with ideas please.

you don't have to reinstall windows 7...just boot with windows 7 cd and then select repair>fix boot up problems
after fixing the problems system will ask for a reboot so give ok and your windows 7 will be working fine in dual boot mode.

You can format the Ubuntu partition from Windows Recovery Environment and check if it helps.

Use the Windows installation disc to go to windows Recovery Environment or system recovery options page. Follow these steps:

1. Insert the disc.

2. Restart your computer using the computer's power button.

3. If prompted, press any key to start Windows from the installation disc.

• If your computer isn't configured to start from a CD or DVD, check the information that came with your computer. You may need to change your computer's BIOS settings. For more information, see http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/BIOS-frequently-asked-questions

4. Choose your language settings, and then click Next.

5. If you are using the Windows installation disc, click Repair your computer.

Now continue with the instructions until you get an option to format the partition. Select the partition where Ubuntu is installed and click on format.

Important: It is important to backup your data before you format your drive as all the data will be erased from the drive.
